mp3 "stereo" install

Post by dotcentral »

Anyone know of a good write up on this? Ford Muscle has one, but since I don't subscribe I can only see the 1st page. I'm wanting to do this with no radio/head unit to play through as I want to keep the dash radio delete & really don't want to hassle with mounting a radio remotely.

I think I have the basics figured out, but a good tech article would be helpful.

My son should me a deal this morning that you just plug your mp3 into and set your radio dial to a like station and it plays wireless. just like picking up another radio station . No installation just a couple of batteries.
looks like this.

By the way he called it an FM modulator

I am not sure how you will get sound to your speekers without a head unit?? :?

You will have to remote mount a head unit some place. Most put them in the glovebox. You could put it under your seat, you might have to make a little spacer to move your seat up to get the room. Then you could get a headunit with a remote.

I may have to re-subscribe to Ford Muscle to get the whole article, but I think they did it w/o a radio using an amp. I'll take a good look at El Polacko's write up and talk to a friend that is pretty knowledgeable about such things.

I might have to give in and mount a fm radio in the glovebox, but trying to avoid it.

edit to add, took me 5 times trying to post this reply. Is it just my computer or is the site a little particular lately? Been having problems with replies the past week or so.

Actually you can hook up most cd players and mp3 players through the headphone jack to an amp.

The headphones don't put out much more than what a preout does from a car stereo.

I know the portable stuff used to come with a cable that plugged into the headphone jack and had RCA outs on the other end.

You could also go to your local electronics store and get the stuff to make your own.

Here are a couple of examples.
