Question about Ranger woodgrain dash trim

Post by kaptnkaos »

Hey guys,

I picked up a set of the Ranger style wood grain dash trim pieces that go under the instrument panel. Is there a good way to remove the wood grain stuff without damaging them?
My bump don't wanna be a Ranger, so I wanna either remove the wood grain and polish them or paint over the wood grain with the same color as the dash itself... not sure what that's gonna be yet...

Thanks again,

Try a heat gun or hair dryer.Use a plastic scraper after you heat it.It is only a stick on decal.Try not to press to hard you might put grooves in it.

The woodgrain on those pieces in my 69 Ranger was painted on. I sanded it off.

Hey QC...

Good to see another webfoot...
Thanks for the info...
I wanna use them on my '68 CS project, but don't like the fakey woodgrain.
I either wanna go polished, painted the same color as the cab, or actual wood venier...
I'm leaning toward the polished look, then everything else would match.

take care,

Ya, once that wood grain gets dinged up you can't do anything with it and I don't think anyone makes new ones. I might just paint mine, too, or get them powder coated.

Or polish the outlines and then tape them off and scotchbrite the old woodgrain section to give it a 'brushed' look. I think that would look cool.

Hey R50...

Yeah... what ever i do with them, the outside trim part is gonna be polished, to match the trim for the other side that is just the narrow brite strip that goes around the outside of the glove box.
On the glove box itself, I wanna put one of the '68 style off-set
Camper Special fender emblems super imposed over an air brushed pic
of snow covered Mt Rainer.
I mighta used Mt St. Helens, but I don't want my truck to blowup like she did... lol

I used paintt stripper and then red scotch brite pad to give them a brushed look.

Hey DW...

I'll try the wd40 trick...
I'd rather use that than some of the stuff I have....
Zylene.. MEK... laquer thinner... Acetone...
dang, I have a little bit of everything...
I used to do screen printing so I had a bunch of that stuff...
I just wasn't sure what would work without damaging the surface underneth....

Thanks again..
