F100 WITH SMALL LUG PATTERN?

Post by f100hillbilly »

Well, here goes... You might think me crazy, but I'd like to put a set of 15" Magnum 500's on my 2wd 72 f100. Now, I heard that some 1980 only f100's had a smaller (4.75" on 5) lug pattern. This would work for the front rotors, if they used the same calipers. But I don't want to use the 1980 "corporate" rear, so I need to know which ford Galaxie or wagon had the same length 9" axles as the f100's. The big cars all used the 4.75 on 5 lug pattern, so they SHOULD be a direct swap. I've never seen it done, but that doesn't mean it can't be. I think the magnums would be ultra cool on an f100. Any advice? Axle people? Thanks.

I think you are on the right track but just thought would the lincoln axles with the disk brakes be worth swaping in, or are they a different spacing ?

Why don't you just have the axles redrilled for the bolt pattern you desire? Seems like a lot less time and trouble involved.

The subject of changing the bolt pattern was discussed recently here too. Read the following thread:

umm... if Im not mistaken... the small lug pattern for a ford is 4.50" on 5". 4.75" is chebby.

there is another way, swap the whole rear axle out of a mustang the spring pads are real close to the widh of a 67-72 F series and depending on your track width desires you can chose between diffrent mustang years to get fatter or narrower.

and on the front, if you dig through a bearing book like federal mogal you will find that their are a few ford cars that share the same bearing set as the ford half ton, and the "light duty" 3/4 ton.

I have NOT done this, but with a little research and time it should be able to be done and with not tooo much modification to parts.

Ford used the 9 inch until around 83. Most of the big cars had coil springs so you would have to weld on pads.
I have had 2 "light duty" 3/4 ton pickups and there is no similarity to anything F-100 on the rotors.
I agree with Keith, redrill for the bolt pattern you want.
Great ideas have always encounter violent opposition from mediocre minds.

what I was refering to when I said light duty 3/4 was the wheel bearing spindle size for the front wheels. some of the ford car hubs have the same bearing size as the f100 and f250 light duty spindle. hence you should be able to swap hub/rotor onto a truck spindle to get the 5 on 4.5 circle bolt pattern.

mustangs from 1964 - 1973 had leaf springs in the rear, and Ive read somewhere that they are real close in spring pad width (donot know how close) and will work. I do belive the 64-66 stang rear might be too narrow to fit.

the big cars before 1964 were all leaf, 57-64 had nine inchers.
