I just bought a new starter for my 429. It's one of those mini with high torque output, I kind of opted last minute for it.
Now the old starter I pulled was the stock original. It had one mount for the ignition solinoid. The new one has a mount for (and is labeled) Ignition and Battery. The battery mount is a large post and the ignition is a smaller post. am I supposed to hook the battery directly or whats the deal?
Thanks
Kyle

re: (another) starter question.
I put one of those on my 68 stang…What you have to do is move the power cable that goes from the starter to the solenoid to the same side as the battery connection on the solenoid so that the starter has power all the time. Then run a 10 gauge wire from where this power wire was on the solenoid to the Ignition terminal on the starter. Works great, I plan on putting one on the 460 when I install it in my bump.

If it Looks good and Works good then it's ok by me. Everything has its issues from time to time...

re: (another) starter question.
Here is a quick diagram of how to connect it. If you had it connect this way then there is a problem with the solenoid on the starter…
I tried hooking it up this way on mine and the starter would not disengage fast enough after the motor started…
This works on Chevy starters this way (as I have done them that way) but not on the Ford starters…
Let me know if this helps or if you need anything else.

re: (another) starter question.
I found the installation instructions that came with my starter and posted them below. This is for the stock late model high torque starter installed on early model vehicle… Guess it was a 12 gauge wire used… Mine came with a wire kit which was just the 12 gauge wire with terminals and these instructions…
If you have something different let me know and I’ll see if I can find the info on it.
Here is a photo of the starter I have...
