Thanks Keith, that should come in handy. Did Unity ever send you that template?
Can someone enlighten me on a drill bushing? I did a search and can see what it is, but what is it's purpose? Is it just to keep the drill bit in alignment as you drill through the different levels of sheet metal? :?

No, I never received anything from Unity...having a template would sure be nice.

The drill bushing is exactly what you were thinking. It simply holds the drill bit at the correct angle for the hole.

I think I'll just bite the bullet and get the 185 installation kit ($58.56) to get that drill bushing and template, which could then be loaned out to anyone who might need it in the future. According to the Unity site, "Installation kit includes the mounting bracket, gasket (when needed), fasteners, trim pieces, drill bushing, template and complete instructions."

I just went ahead and ordered that on the credit card...the total with shipping came to $69.51. Hopefully it does include everything that it says...and that it's the right one! Of course, I'll still have to come up with a 22" drill bit, but like Jake11 mentioned earlier, I could just lengthen an existing 1/2" bit.

I'll keep you all informed.

Well folks, the installation kit came in today. The kit number 185 was the correct one for mounting it to the driver's side cowl. I took some pictures of the kit, and also scanned the template and installation instructions...all are posted below.

At the bottom of Fig. 02 is the mounting bracket and gasket. I didn't really need it, but it's part of the kit, enabling you to mount any Unity spotlight. Just above the gasket is the drill bushing. [CLICK HERE to see a hi-res picture of that drill bushing.]

I then scanned the mounting template (with a ruler), and tried printing it out, and it matched up perfectly with the master, so you all should be able to use this template for locating your own spotlight.

NOTE: I tried printing this from my browser, and it came out too small. However, if you save the image to your hard drive and then print it out, it SHOULD be correct. If not, at least you can use the ruler on the image as a guide for resizing it on a copier to get the correct size.

I then scanned all four pages of the installation instructions and converted them to a single PDF file, which will allow you to either view or print them out:

I'll be getting started on installing mine sometime in the near future, and when I do I'll be putting together a complete tutorial. In the meantime, I hope this stuff helps you all out! :D

As far as the 22" drill goes, I would just use a regular bit and a couple of long extensions you get from the hardware store.

My truck has the spotlight that (I assume) was put on by the factory or original dealer. If you want some photos, I'd be happy to oblige.
