Hey Hinkle...

First disconnect the battery... you don't want to short something out.
The knob has a small set screw on it. Loosen the set screw.
There is nut that has 2 grooves on it the fits into the benzel.
There have been several ways to remove this nut dicussed on previous posts...
There is actually a tool you can get. I use a small punch with a small leather mallet, 'cause that's what I have that works for me.
One of the guys uses retaining ring pliers.
Again, a matter of what you have on hand.
You just want to be careful so you don't mess up the benzel retaining nut.
When you have it loosened, the whole switch will be loose and can be unplugged from the wiring harness.
The new installs in reverse order.
If you are upgading to a 78-79 intermittent set up (I highly recommend it since yer gonna havr it a part anyway. ) Check out the tech sheets on doing that.. Super easy and the best 15 minute upgrade you'll ever do... and yer truck will love ya for it...

Here's the special tool you'll need, if you don't want to scratch up the bezel:

I got mine at a garage sale, but any parts store should be able to get one as well. Here's a similar unit on E-bay:

I second this upgrade. Might as well while you have it apart and it's sooo much nicer having more than two wiper speeds.

yup... that's all there is to it...

Livin' in Western WA, intermittents aren't just a luxury, they're dang near a necessity. That's why Thunderfoot and I have been workin' so hard trying to figure out how to make them work on my bus Olde Skool.
Not having much luck with that project... still not sure if they are gonna work or not, the wiper motors are differant than F-series truck wiper motors. The truck motors have 4 wires, one for power and the other 3 for functions. The motors on my bus only have 3 wires to the motor.

The only ones that you have to move one of the wires on, are the 80-86 units (that is super easy)

Besides Ebay, is there another source for the "delay relay"? I can get the actual switch from Blue Oval Truck Parts.com, but what about the actual relay and mini-harness/loom? I would like a "new" one; not rusted and used.

Is there a part number on the relay to cross-reference?

Hey Rob-a-billy..

You could probably pick one up at just about any parts house...
It might have to be a dealer only part...
But the relay set up for a 78-79 Bronco or Ranger XLT is a direct plug and play.
Most of us have either gotten them from the wrecking yard or off of e-bay.
I wouldn't even wanna guess what a dealer gets for them.

Hey Kaptn, just curious, your bus wipers, are they only 1 speed, or do they not park themselves?

Hey Dan, they are 2 speed and also park themselves... We got real close to getting them to work but the way the motors are wired using only 3 wires to do all this, the control from the intermittent wiper switch (controller) wouldn't let it work right... :hs: It needs that 4th wire from the newer style park function to make it work right... :(
