Guage cluster lights...

Post by Darrman »

I have the cluster out and just replaced all the light bulbs, gonna change the lens while I am at it.
However, I have found that someone for some reason has spliced the two turn signal bulbs together, and then to a toggle switch mounted in the dash. I tested the turn signals before I started tearing down and they worked, both outside and inside. The only thing I can think of is a f'd up trailer wiring job, the splices are as crude as you can imagine.
So now I need to get these wire reconnected the right way. I have two bulbs, two wires, one from each socket, but only one cut wire from the harness. All wires are Blue/Red stripe. Thanks!

Blue w/red stripe is your dash light circuit, not turn signals.

Not sure how to advise you from there though.... are you sure they are in the turn signal holes?

I agree with Eric,

The Blue - Red stripe is the dash lights…looking at this diagram http://www.fordification.com/images/sch ... s81-85.jpg the instrument panel has 19 and 19A they both are connected together and go into the plug as one wire…

Looking at this diagram http://www.fordification.com/images/sch ... ghts01.jpg the turn signal wires are; Left side= 50 (Green – white stripe) and Right side= 49 (White – blue stripe)

Hope this helps...

You may be right about in not being the turn signal, I have the speedo out now and may have gotten the bulbs confused. I will look again tonite to double check.
If so, how are the two bulb wires spliced to one wire at the harness?

Yeah, I screwed up. It is the two speedo lights that are rigged, oops. I noticed both of these bulbs were blown, blackened to be precise.
I guess I will just solder the two back to the one, gonna have to add wire thats missing.

Here is a stupid question, I gave all the guage needles a light coat of red paint, they were pretty faded. This shouldnt throw off the readings, right? Not that they are pinpoint precise to begin with, but hopefully the added weight doesnt throw off the balance.
