Yes the truck used to be a manual. I've since sold that engine now I've got the 429.

Now when I went under the dash to find the plug for the neutral saftey, I found a plug which had a bypass like Thunderfoot mentioned. Sorry I'm repeating myself but would that bypass plugged in mean that neutral saftey isn't stopping the current?

yeah no neutrl switch to stop you up but maybe you left something disconnected?

did you replace the selenoid? if so did you get the two tiny wires mixed up?

That's the jumper alright... so no nutral safety to worry about...
Take a test light and stab / check the "Red-Blue stripe" wire when you turn the key to the start position and see if it lights up. Then follow this wire out to the starter solenoid and check it along the way. It should be this same color coded wire all the way out to the solenoid… I’m looking at the wire diagram and it looks like there is a "Yellow connector" close to the solenoid that this wire runs through and it also has the right Headlight wires on it as well. So if your right head light is working then there is a brake in this “Red-Blue stripeâ€Â

I tested that and got power on both sides of the wire. At the ignition and at the solenoid. Now where should the other wire on the solenoid be going?

I want to test a few other thing on the truck to see if they are getting power. so I'll have an update soon.

EDIT: I tested the headlight and most of the other electrical stuff all of it got power When the key was turned to "ACC" and "ON". I also tested the other post on the solenoid, the wire leading to the coil and it got power once the key was turned to "ON". And like I said if I used a jumper switch to bypass the starter relay, I got power to the starter. Anyway, Thanks again for all the help thus far.

Just to be sure... when you say you "use a jumper switch to bypass the starter relay" you are talking about hooking a 12V wire / switch from the battery to the terminal on the starter solenoid that the Red-Blue stripe wire goes to... correct?

Make sure that the solenoid is grounded on the fender good or even run a small ground wire from one of the mounting bolts to the battery ground... Only other thing to check would be to put a volt meter on that Red-Blue stripe wire at the solenoid and be sure it is getting 12V.
If all is good there, then I would try a different starter solenoid...

yeah selenoids can go bad. i just remembered that last time i had the two tiny wires backwards the truck would try to start itself continualy even without the key.

when I say "jumper," I'm talking about going from the Battery side of the solenoid to the starter side of the solenoid, via the two large posts on either side.

The neutral safety switch on that manual was more than likely connected to the clutch pedal itself..To ensure the engine didn't crank unless the clutch was disengaged. If you switched the pedal assembly and all, I would look down there and see if there is a two wire connector no longer plugged into anything. If you see it, put a jumper wire to connect the two wires together and see if it cranks then. If you are worried about ensuring it will only start when not in gear [any but park/neutral], you will need to extend the wires and install the proper neutral safety switch in the column for the auto.

Sounds like you either have a bad ground connection for the solenoid, as it has to be grounded to work, or the solenoid itself is bad … Where you checked the start wire (Red – Blue) wire at the solenoid with a test light and it lit then all your wiring is good, so it points to the solenoid… I have had problems with them not being grounded good enough from loose rusty mounting bolts and a fresh paint job on the fender where it mounts… And have even had brand new ones from the parts store be bad, two in a row the last time I needed one…

Hope this helps… Let me know what you find.

I checked it and pulled it off the fender well to make sure it was grounding, reattached it, she tuned over just great. I have to say, I haven't heard this engine run until today. 3 years I've had this engine waiting to be started. She sounds great. F*cking great. I almost teared up. Trust me That felt good. Like good good. Thanks all for your help. I'll be making a project update page soon, so I can tell my story. Once again, thanks everyone for their help.
