Dash removal?

Post by Darrman »

Dumb question, but can the entire dash be unbolted, or is it welded in?
Thanks!

The metal dash is welded in with about 100 spot welds.

Yep....and you'd have to have the windshield removed to drill them out along the front, since the front lip of the dash (where the spotwelds are) extends up into the windshield frame. Here's a shot of a dash I decided to drill out on a junked cab, just for the experience of doing it....needless to say, I probably will never do that again.

Ah, cant ever be easy, lol. I was hoping to pull it out to be stripped for repaint. Looks like we will be doing it the hard way.
I may have to pop the windshield to get at all of the dash, I want to get it to bare metal.
I am getting ready to replace the floor pans and patch the kick panels. Only problem is I gotta learn to weld first, lol. I got the new pans, and I closed a bullet hole that was in the trans tunnel. Poor truck got shot at some point, with a big caliber gun, probably handgun. Had to have hit the trans, but no damage now.
