making 12v 6v?

how do you do that? i have a unity s-5 door mount spotlight. it uses a mazda bulb. or a ge 1209. its 6 volt aand as we all know our trucks run 12 volts.

If you can't find a 12V bulb that is the same wattage that will fit the holder you need some kind of Resistor in line or a voltage regulator. The trick is finding out what the wattage is on the bulb so that you can match what you need for it.

Let me know if you need some help I can draw up a diagram for you for it if I have the info on the bulb. :)

and its only a five dollar bulb.

If you could get the 12V bulb to work that would be the easiest…
Do you have 2 of these that you are mounting or just the 1?
I’ve been looking for a resistor to put in line to drop the voltage but having a hard time finding one (online anyways) that will handle that much wattage for such a low ohm size… I got an idea for a quick dirty way but I’m still looking for a better, clean, easy way…

the 12v bulb mounts like an 1156/1157. so i'll have to change the socket. if i do that i think i'll go hallogen. i already have one of those driving light sockets/bulbs.

but so far i haven't gotten the spot to even get any power.

Best solution is to get a 12v conversion goin, but if you wanna do it with some redneck enginamaneering....

Resistor network for a blower motor fan mounted in a steel junction box to keep the heat from melting anything would work as a quick and dirty solution.
