wiring it up...
and have a few questions. I see that the "fuseable link" wire goes from the voltage regulator, to the starter relay, and the alternator. So my question is this (pictured below) is the starter relay wire going to be a smaller gauge than the one to the alternator? I see a smaller black line (maybe 12 gauge or so) with a ring on it, like the yellow wire that goes to the starter relay, so this may be it. I also see a thicker black wire with an orange box labeled "fuseable link", so this is exactly that. THEN I see a thicker black wire with a ring terminal on it, as well as a hood, like newer batteries have for the wires. None of which (that is hooked up now anyways) comes from the votage regulator.
Does all that make sense? If a real picture is, needed, I can get one.
In the picture below I believe I have the one that goes up to the relay, and the one that goes down to the alt....but not the one to the regulator
Second question...do I NEED that metal plate for the back of the alt? Is that some sort of grounding point? If so, does anyone have that they can fedex me priority? The wires for the alt are color coded with the wire and plastic deal right?
And last but not least, the (what I believe to be a relay) inside the larger circle, what exactly is that? Can I ask for one at the parts store? And if it comes down to it, does anyone have one?

The thicker black w/ the Hood should be your alt Batt wire.
The regulator wire may not come from the solenoid directly.
The metal plate I have no clue
Wire should be color coded to alt, providing is original.
Relay in picture (33) is your horn relay

re: wiring it up...
so the one with the hood goes to the alt, i thought so. the thin one goes to the relay, correct? the thin one with the ring terminal. The only other black wire I have says "fuseable link" on an orange block, and a few inches farther up it has a little black nub, like extra rubber maybe. Possibly a resistor or possibly nothing at all. either way, where is this SUPPOSED to go haha.

alt wires, which seem to not match colors...
fuseable link, with black "square nub" on the end
voltage regulator, with no black wires, only red/black. which i believe was actually connected to the core support possibly as a ground.

The fuse link needs a new eye and goes on the battery side stud of the starter solenoid. the 2 thin black ? wires near reg are grounds use a reg bolt to ground reg and wires to rad support.
On the alt end of loom, the the metal eye tab on the ground stud, the others should come close to were they need to go.

re: wiring it up...
im going to bump this back up as I still havent finished up wiring the alt. I need to know what to do. The wire with the orange block on it, should be "re-eyed" and put on the batt side of the starter solenoid, correct? What has me confused really is the 3 wires in the loom together, the orange hooded one and black hooded one, along with the one with just the eye on it. I just noticed there is what looks to be a mounting hole on the end of the rubber housing too, is that bolted anywhere?

re: wiring it up...
okay so what i have here now for the alt portion is this. The black wire with the eye end, and hood cover is the battery cable. I have it tightened down and good to go. The smaller black wire, meets with the white tab. Now I have one left, and orange hooded wire. This seems to only fit the ground post. What gets me here is that it only pushes on so far. It has maybe a 1/4 inch or 1.8 inch to the body of the alt.

re: wiring it up...
okay, I have some more pictures, so lets see if we can get it all straightened out here, and maybe I can move on to the next area of wiring.
This is my alternator as it sits this very moment.
I have a feeling that the black jacket type deal shown with the ring terminal mount style thing, should do just that....mount somewhere. If not, cool, but should it? Also, pictured below is a red and black wire with an eyelet on the end, I believe it goes to the back of the alt, any truth to that?
My last concern is the placement of the black, orange, and white wires on the back of the alternator. Do they look correct in the above picture? Reason I ask is because the orange wire is not pressed fully onto the alt, it can only go on the push screw so much. Pictured below.

Ya, switch the Orange & Black that are next to each other in the first picture.kid wrote:Not the ground post. Orange is the Field wire.
Don't worry about that mounting tab.

the red and black wire, does it go to the alt or to the core support?

re: wiring it up...
okay so i have more questions, as i dont see these on the "quick reference" for the 72 year diagram.
First, there is a plug, with 2 black and red wires, possibly black and orange, you know how colors change over the years, that plugs into a black rubber plug, this is pictured. This is the bottom plug in the picture
Second, theres an orange wire with a circular plug, i forget the name of that style connector, but it is pictured as well. It is the right plug in the picture.
Third, the left plug has two purple wires running into it.
The middle plug has some yellow and green colored wires, it may be green/ black, green, yellow, yellow black, I can't really tell because of their condition.
Hopefully you guys can help me out, I am sure your tired of hearing about this crap! I know I am tired of asking!

re: wiring it up...
Okay, I may have answered a couple, but I want to be sure...
The purples, that my be my "low brake warning switch", but I am not sure. It may not even belong in the engine bay!
Could the red/black be the buck-up light switch??
If it is these two things, where do they plug in.
Any help is appreciated!!
