How do I repair

Ideas on what to do with this?? Will not be a "show truck" but I do want it nice, will use ipod or mp3 player eventually for tunes

Yeah, I got some of that too. I plan to make patch panels and weld them in. On the door panels, you'll have to get new ones obviously.

I don't know why folks dont just bend back the ears that hold the radio in. On that repair, you could fabricate a bracket.

Ooo, well in that case you could try fiberglass. I coated a rotten floor panel with it and it's lasted 13 years.

Glass that just might work..Also I am gonna need a place to put speakers, Seems like they might get wet in the doors but dunno bout the kick panels.. I hope to remove in cab fuel tank if I can find a factory aux tank & accessories. maybe speakers there...

You can get some Baffles/covers that go over the speekers in the doors. You realy don't need them as there is not that much water on the inside of the doors, all the new speekers are made from plastic or some type of water resistant foam.

To fix the holes without a welder you could cut the patches out and have them fit. Then just pay someone to tack them in for you. Then use the kitty hair bondo stuff to fill and smooth. Not the Right way, but not a bad one eather.

For the dash you can do the same thing.

Check your local auto body supply shops. I have seen where 3m makes a "tape" that you could use to adhere a patch panel to the inside of the door. If you got really creative you might be able to add a piece behind the hole and one on top of that fitting really snug to the original sheet metal and use very little filler. I have never used the stuff personally but I seen that The new guys on the TV show trucks used on the "S10K" build. Also seen it on the history channel (modern marvels episode adhesives i think). Worth looking into. I will look a link to the website as well.

See what you think about some of that stuff. The history chanel said something to the effect that during huricane Katrina all the signs had been blown over/apart. That is except for the one or ones that was testing the "VHB tape". Not sure but worth looking into. Let me know if you try it also please. Good Luck.

You could also rivet in a patch panel from the backside of the speaker hole.

There is patch panel adhesive made now its used alot in body shops with the new vehicles the metal is too thin for tack welding its a two part adhesive works great and then you fill and blend the two surfaces with a good filler. uses a special type caulk gun to dispense it.

Thanks gents, I see I do hava lotta options I think I might have even scored some other doors here, gotta see if they are in better shape. My doors are rust free. Just gotta figure out what to do with the dash...If I pull glove box door & ash tray...There is a big hole there, gotta be something cool I could do there

This is the stuff that was used on some areas of my truck that I was talking about in this post its been 1 1/2 yrs now its still holding up no rust comming back or cracks or any further repair needed to these areas and it was in areas that would be very difficult to weld or get at with a welder Im very sold on the stuff >>> I was at first leary about the guy using this stuff be he assured me it was the cats meow and as strong as a weld>>> Im a beliver now and will insist on it for other future repairs that do not require welding ,,, that is a good video too I saved it for the future reference. It's called Fusor. The metal will tear before it does. The gun is expensive for one time use I'd rig something up in a calking gun and go to town. In some circles it's very popular especially in the rust belt, welds quickly rust here. Most newer vehicles use glue to mount body panels. IT's probably overkill for interior panels.

May I suggest marine grade adhesive made by 3m It's used to bond the transome to the hull. And comes in a standard caulking gun. Or slide a larger than neede patch in from the top slather some fiberglass resin on the edges and rivit it on and fill er up or better yet just slap in another 6x9, and call it a day.

The best answer yet, why did I not think of that LOL. If you dont want a speaker there you could always get the grille cover from one and give the illusion of a speaker. Be certain it is a high dollar speaker cover. That way if someone trys to steal the expensive speaker they are truly mad to only find the cover. Good luck with how you decide to fix the whole.
