Turn Signal Switch Replaced - still no signals!!

Post by hmills »

I purchased a turn signal switch complete with all 7 wires (from Dennis Carpenter). After installing it the signals are still not working. The fuse is good. hmmm Any ideas?

is there any cut wires in the harness? could your signal harness itself be bad at the signal?

Do you have brake lights?

Hey HM...

Silly question at this point, but did you replace both blinker units under the dash? I had a lot of problems with my blinkers they'de work some and others wouldn't even light up. I replaced the blinker unit several times, only to find out that there was a second unit. I haven't has any more problems after I replaced both units.
I also recently learned that a burned out or missing bulb can cause that too.
I also learned that there is grounding strap that should be connected from your body to your frame.. If that has lost ground your lights may not work either.

good luck

I replaced the turn signal switch/harness. I don't believe the main harness is bad.

No i don't have brake lights. I thought this was strange.

Kaptn - No I have not replaced the blinker units under the dash. The blinkers were working prior to this project (replacing the shift collar).
Perhaps the bulbs burned out. I'll check them out. I'll also check the ground strap. thanks for the ideas.

IIRC your brakes and tuyrns are tied together inside the column or the harness somewhere.

also check the ground in the tailight bucket area. if the bucket is loose or the grounding points these are the two screws that hold the buckets to the body are rusted they will cuase a bad ground.
