My in-cab tank gauge was not working due to a rusted/leaking float.
Short of buying a new one, what can be a suitable replacement? Any ideas?
It's got to:
1. fit into the tank gauge hole
2. be fuel resistant
3. be easy to make
4. Not made of any precious metals.
and of course.... FLOAT.
Old ones are tough to come by in the wrecking yards. Most are in the same condition as mine....

Yeah, but
"Local Ford Dealer" is dead to me. After waking up the guys at the parts counter, they Himmmed and Hawwed about a 1967....
"1967.... uh..... did Ford make trucks back then???? well ya know, those parts are uh..... i don't know if I can order that... it's made of METAL??? We only deal in plastic parts here.... Have you tried the wrecking yard?"
(quote is exaggerated a slight bit )
Just my experience. They're worthless.
I'll look at LMC and other non-corporate vendors. Any home-grown replacement ideas are still appreciated.

Thats what I did to mine...You need a pretty high wattage
gun, or a mild torch, so the solder will flow real well.
But I'd be ultra careful if using any kind of torch...
Could melt through if you got carried away...Myself,
I used a soldering gun with a 150w element, and it was
hot enough...I did that in 2000, and it's still working...
BTW...if you have a lot of rust, and the float stem
is rusted in place, you can usually free them up by
rust buster, and gentle prodding after it sits a while..
I gave the stem a shot of paint to try to slow the rust
down a tiny bit... MK
