re: wiring it up...
the 69 diagram (charging system diagrams) have me all confused. it shows the orange that i have, not plugging into anything at all...but it has an orange colored wire coming from the fuel tank sender, to a cylinder labeled "F", which I can only guess is some sort of fuse, then going to a plug block connector and then to what im guessing is the plug I see. Am I seeing that right?
I don't really see any black/red pig tails?

Red and black to back up, purple to brake warning and you are missing the pigtail cables that go from up high at those connectors to another connector down by the places where they go. The cable is 3 pieces for each one. inside to firewall/fender connector cable from connector firewall/fender to frame down by the brake warning valve. Pigtails from there to the actual switches.

re: wiring it up...
see I didn't see anything in the dash that didn't have a plug, and if it did, it was connected to something else. I will look harder in the morning.
I'm guessing it would be easier if I pulled the gauge panel out as a whole and looked.

the one that when the brake isn't pressed, it presses the white button on it? if so, yes. that is plugged up. there is another plug that seems like a lot of wires, like a 10 pin connection with 9 pins only, something like that. thats connected as well.

the one inside the cab goes to the fuel tank. the one under the hood goes on the alternator i believe it is the feild, or it may be te stator wire.

huh? The only one left is the orange wire, and I don't have anything (that I can find) to hook it up too.

is it the long orange one inside of the cab?
if so it goes up through the pillar over the door down the back pillar and onto the fuel tank sending unit. all on the driverside.
if its the one under the hood it goes to te altenator.

re: wiring it up...
OK, went out a looked at my '72 F-350.
The Orange wire you speak is the one that comes out of the harness by itself and has a black female style barrel shape plug on the end of it?
If so, my truck also has the same wire. It is connected to.....
nothing.
On my truck it just hangs there and does nothing. Everything works fine elec. in my truck. So i would say, don't worry about it.
Good luck
