What year is this F500 Cluster?

Post by cghstrojan08 »

I haven't seen one of these type clusters with the way the numbers are. This is the main part of the cluster I just took the front off to paint.

This has been my personal experience:

Howver, I've since seen that style on some '69s, so it might not be totally accurate.

A bit of useless information. The 1973-1978 F100's that was produced in South Africa (right-hand drive), came out with the 1968 F600 instrument panel.

Oh yes, all the way from early F-1's all the way to 1978 models was produced here. And some fine examples are still well and alive, all right-hand drives.
As I mentioned, all models from 1973 thru 1978 came out with 1968 F600 instrument panels and P-350 hydraulic clutch slave cylinder assemblies.

Early F-1 and F-100's up to 1960 came out with flathead V8's and from 1960's all with 300 in-lines 6's. No V8 were ever in F-100's, in South Africa.

The other significant characteristic, of South African F-100's, is that fender-side badges were not adhered to, as per American factory standards. You'd find an insignia of a 1974 on a 1978 or vive versa, according to "batches".

An, also, 1974 to 1978 versions were only available as the Custom models, not the Lariats, double-cabs, crew-cabs or camper version. No fancy mouldings, either. The tailgates were also from the early 1968 to 1972.
