Wires coming from the cab

Post by The_Eman »

I have two wires coming out of the back drivers side cab of my truck towards the bed. They've been cut and I don't their purpose. Any thoughts?

:yt: There aren't any factory wires which exit the back of the cab.

Sounds like the PO had wired in lights for a topper maybe. Don't you hate mystery wires!

Thanks for the responses. Yes I hate mystery wires. I also hate this mystery box I have that that has engergize written on it and it is connected by a jumper from the brake light wires.

That sounds kinda like it might be a trailer brake controller? Does it look sorta like this?

If that's what it is, it'll have a steel brakeline coming out of the back of the box and going through the firewall to connect to a tee fitting at the master cylinder.

My trailer brake control is down on the side under the Parking Brake release. Yours is where my missing AC unit goes.

Here is a pic of the box. Definitely not stock. Notice the arrow pointing to the left. One can slide that portion to the left. The slider doesn't stay in the "left"/"moved" position. The slider immediately returns to the orignal position.

Any thoughts?

I thought so too when I saw Kelsey on the Box, Kelsey prior to Kelsey Hayes made trailer brakes. I just didn't want to say anything until I looked it up.

:yt: gbrett is correct.

I have used that same trailer brake controller in a couple of my trucks. It will have a wire connected to the Brake lights to activate the controller and uses a inertia pendulum inside it to control how hard it applies the brakes. This style has no need to be plumbed into the brake hydraulic lines...
The slider is for manual operation..
