Windsheilds
With all of this interchange talk, I was wondering? My 72 has a cracked windsheild, while one of the 74's I have has a perfect one. Will they interchange. Maybe after all of these questions are answered,Keith, you could make a section on the website for 73-79 interchangeable parts.

I'm going to say no. My bro in law has a '75, had new glass and rubbers with it when he bought it, i pondered buying his rubbers from him as opposed to lmc or someone..... well, the rubber was to big,, and we set the glass side by side, and the later model glass is not the same shape and size as the earlier......

Oh really? I was always with the understanding that all '67-'79 windshields were the same.
Yeah, I think coming up with a page of items from the '73-'79 era which will work with little or no modification would be a good idea. I just might have to make that my next Tech page....well, in addition to the several others I'm currently working on.

I thought they looked a lot a like. I may have to try it out some time soon.

I forgot to include in my intro that I suffer from CRS. thinking back on it, it was the rear glass we compared, he got a new slider rear window with his truck, in the box, I was going to swap him out of it, but it was a different size... I did have the windshields nested together for sometime, they didn't exactly snuggle up. and I believe after finding out the rear glass was different, I cannot recall even trying to see if the front rubber was the right size. I can check it out tomorrow in more detail, he still hasn't put the new glass in his truck....

I'm thinking my Dad put a later 70's windshield in his 1968 one time. I know we replaced it, cause i was the one who broke it.

The windshields are the same 67-79. The back glass isn't.

I have heard that they will interchange. Someone was saying somewhere that most of the new replacement windshields are thinner. Do the new gaskets allow for this?willowbilly3 wrote:The windshields are the same 67-79.
Has anyone compared part numbers on the windshield, rubber gasket, or metal trim pieces?
My windshield is milky at the bottom, but there is a 73-79 with what looks like a good windshield I think I can get for next to nothing.

The new re-pop gaskets are made for the thinner glass. They had to sand the edge of my original windshield to get it in the gasket.

I've also heard that the replacements are thinner and the original SS trim won't fit in the newer gaskets but they come with their own trim as used in the newer trucks FWIW.

Yeah, let us know what you hear. I'll be using a good original windshield on my truck (when it gets to that point) so it would be nice to know if a factory-style gasket is available and from whom.

What was ever found out about these gaskets?? I have a new windshield and the gasket doesn't seem to fit correctly. and since it has been replaced it leaks when it rains.

Thanks for the tip Fordman.
But about the gaskets was anything found out? I need one so I can put the chrome trim back in. I was stationed away from my truck when the windshield got put back in and someone told my dad that you can not put the trim back in with a new windshield.
