F600 dash cluster?

Post by FrankenFord »

Is there some place I can get a male end to the f600 dash cluster. I've got a 72 and need to change the truck side of the harness. or is just crusing the junk yards my best bet.

junk yards is probably your best bet. you might be able to put a want add on ebay. but i don't think it will do you much good unless you want the whole cluster.

Hey FrankenFord

I'm not sure why my earlier post post did go thru...
I think, I'd change the plug on the gauge cluster rather than the one on the harness...
It's much easier to have both clusters out on the table and switch them than having to do it inside the cab...
plus, if you ever need to go back to a stock IP all you have to do is switch them back or plug and play a different IP completely...
Finding an F-500 is difficult enough, (at least in these parts) but finding a yard that will let you cut up a good harness may be even harder... most yards that I deal with don't want you damaging the main harness, unless you intend on buying it.
There is an inexpensive tool you can get to unlock the wire leads.
There have been several posts about installing these IP in our trucks...

Good luck with yer swap...

I would love to do it that way but my curent cluster plugs into a flimsy curcit type paper the wire harness has prongs that stick out the sides like little leaf springs.

hey FF..

There is another thread on installing one of these...
If your f-600 ip has the connector, it should plug right into your stock harness... The female connector on the ip should match the male connector on the harness (that may be backwards.. i can't remember which side is which)...
depending on what year the f-600 ip is from you may have to move one of the wires.. it seems like all of the colors match exept two.
again depending on the year...
you may have to move either a purple wire or a brown wire so that they match up.
If you end up needing a connector I probably have one laying around...
I wasn't thinking about you having a later model... both of my bumps have been '68's.

Good luck...

Look for any 1970 or earlier ford F-100 up truck that had the full instruments (not idiot lights) and you can get the connector your after... In 1971 Ford switched to a printed circuit board connection like you have in your truck...

I'm not "Brand Loyal" Ford-Chevy-Dodge-Toyota I have them all, one even cross mixed...
If it Looks good and Works good then it's ok by me. Everything has its issues from time to time...
