rebel-wire wiring harness (must read)

Post by layedout72 »

So I am over on the HAMB, searching the vendors just to see what all I may be able to use and I ran across this company. Everyone that has responded saying they bought one, is loving it. SUPER CHEAP. You can get a 9+3 circuit kit, which will run engine/heater/lights/radio/gauges and have 3 circuits left over in case you want to add power windows/locks, and whatever else, maybe a sunroof or something.

I asked how it all works and from my understanding it gets rid of all these ugly bulky connectors that ford used, and runs straight to where everything needs to go. They use SXL wire, I believe painless is TXL, and I am not sure what difference it makes, but I haven't seen anything bad on this company as they tell you exactly what your getting.

Since it deletes (from my understanding) all the connectors, he says you have to buy ring and spade terminals, to connect things. Also, the wire is labeled every 6 inches as to where it goes, and all that.

Prices are:
Price $119.95 for the basic 8 circuit. lights/gauges/engine/radio
Price $139.95 for the 9+3 i listed above
Price $179.95 for the 20 circuit

I still have a few questions to ask, as the 20 circuit has backup lights and dash light wire.

SXL is Silicone covered and TXL is Thermoplastic covered. Thermoplastic for everywhere except near the exhaust. The connectors come in handy during body work and other major work. I try and keep them when I rewire.

i'd stick with the txl. i wouldnt want to run the light swicth with rig turminals or even the female spades.

And honestly i think painless has soe similair prices.

painless wants 450 bucks for a harness. and you could always keep the plugs, I was just saying that you COULD delete them.

it may be a little wire, but its a TON of frustration. I can't find anywhere that sells this style wire by the foot, it's all on 200+ ft. rolls.

I say buy the kit. You can spend days tracing down problems in 40 year old wiring. At the end of the day it's still 40 year old wiring. Even if you do fix one problem another is close behind.

Hence my username...

76 Bronco would blow brain boxes when driving down the road after hitting a bump. Pulled the entire harness, completely pull all tape from the harness and find two wires that were shorting together. Keep inmind this 76 Bronco had been laid out to pasture! A BASKETCASE!
Some idiot before me had pierced the underdash ignition wiring harness mounting a cb radio. Yeah, it took me a few day to repair but also got to fix a lot of other stuff while I was in there. Plus the expierence with learning the wiring for future reference. Also there was no available "new" aftermarket harness at the time for the Bronco's.

Those "ugly bulk connectors" are there for a reason.

Not really sure why you put that they are there for a reason, but there has to be some sort of connector that isn't so ugly, that you could wire into the harness, in the stock locations, or maybe inside the firewall, instead of in the engine bay. I personally hate wiring in the engine bay which is why I will be doing as much ass possible to hide it when they truck is getting "built".

layedout,
Those "ugly bulk connectors" are there for a reason.
Most of the time this is for ease of service.
To pull components and ease of testing.

Just my :2cents:

That's kinda what I figured. I bet I could find some more low profile ones.
