look at this one it is a better wiring diagram and it is probably closer to what we have in our truck. yes the b wire should be hot all the time. maybe that wire is bad?

OK as far as i can tell everything is right!! I believe the wire 904 would be the warnign light in the cluster, there is no wire here on my truck (i too have the gauges)
So...
I am seriously thinking about switching to a 1 wire gm alternator, as far as i can tell all id really need to do is supply power to 1 maybe 2 wires that go to the ignition switch then run the one wire off the back of the alternator to the battery!!!
Can anyone veryify that this is what i need to do?

I have a stock alt. wiring harness off my 68 that you can just plug in as I went to the 3G alt.I'll let you have it for $10.00 plus shipping.I'd hate to see you put GM crap on a nice Ford.

do you have an ammeter in the dash, or an idiot light? If you have a warning light, and the light fails...no charge

if you need a diagram, let me know

i Have the gauge and it reads right above normal all the time even when the truck died because the battery had zero juice it held in the center. i also have a after market volt gauge which is wat i use more often to tell what is happening with my electrical system.
