oh and my truck is auto if that helps. i just read another thread about reverse lights staying on and someone asked where the switch is. they said it was under the column in the cab, by the firewall but there is no such switch.
although there is this switch which is in the cab, ON TOP of the column and by the firewall-

re: reverse light switch on transmission.
My reverse lights are not working either I also had seen the thread which said something about the column, I also had seen one which talked about a jumper under the hood. I know Dennis Carpenters offers a back up switch for our trucks, can anyone tell me where this switch is located?

Stupid question here no offence! but have you checked the bulbs? And the bulb sockets for corrosion?
Just some simple things to check!

actually the only thing i checked is if the bulbs are there and if there is corrosion. both the bulbs could be dead for all i know but i doubt both bulbs burned out at the same time. actually, they could of burned out at different times since i just found out they werent working
if thats the problem ill sure feel like an idiot
ill stick a bulb in and try it. if it doesnt work tomorrow my dad and i are going to try bypassing wires and such.

I checked my bulbs, and also ran a tester to the sockets which were clean and was not getting power to themtheskytoucher wrote:Stupid question here no offence! but have you checked the bulbs? And the bulb sockets for corrosion?

On my 68 it's the switch in the second post. If you slide it the lights come on.

re: reverse light switch on transmission.
Yes, your backup lights are controlled by the neutral safety switch.
There is a small screw on each side of the switch. Loosen each screw slightly, then put the truck in reverse, and turn the key to 'run', but do not start the truck. Move the switch slightly until the lights come on, then tighten down the switch. Check to make sure the engine cranks only in park and neutral.
Before doing this, though, I would check the fuse.
I fought my switch and couldn't get the stupid lights to come on. Turned out to be the fuse.
