Black and red wire?

Post by 460 crew »

What is the black and red wire(maybe just red) that is in the alternator wiring 3 plug harness? it is a jumper back to the thick wire that goes back to the starter relay and is hot all the time, other end is the thick charge wire for the alternator and a yellow one that comes off of it also. I just need to know where it goes so when I ditch the whole harness it's not missing something that needs to be juiced up. i'll take a pic if I can find some batteries they died at the perfect moment. :D

i thought the back and red was a ground from the alternator ground to the ground on the core support bolted to the volt. reg.

i don't think its ever supposed to be hot.

Here goes 1st pic is the red wire in question and all of them I was trying to get them in realtion to the others in the harness. Don't mind the other wiring mess it's the offroad lights and some other relays that need to be all put in a panel of some sort, would make things easier.

Well, I'm not completely sure as I can't find a 3 wire connector like that in the drawings buuuuutttt, my guess would be that it is one of the wires for the amp meter gauge :dk:
That heavy gauge Black with Yellow wire looks like it could be 37 in this diagram http://www.fordification.com/images/sch ... master.jpg and that wire you have there looks like it is just a red 18 gauge wire which might be 655 for the amp meter... and the small yellow one next to it might be 654 the other wire for the amp gauge...

Sorry, this is only my guess at this point... that's my disclaimer

Let me know if you find something else out...
