Car Trailer Rental

Post by roachrider »

This is a little off topic but the tow vehicle is my Ford :D

Does anyone know where I can rent a trailer for towing a car? UHaul refuses to rent it based on the age of my truck('67). I've tried two places. Both agreed over the phone, but refused in person. I really need to get this towed. Anyone have any suggestions of places around Tacoma, WA area that don't have a bunch of corprate BS spilled hot coffee in my lap gonna sue legalese? UHaul's site lists it as an "Approved Configuration" but I'm just sick of dealing with those people.

It's a Dodge Caravan, so it doesn't have to be a HUGE trailer.
Thanks,
-Aaron Taylor aka...Mr. Winch :D

Drat. I was going to suggest U-haul, their double-axle trailers with the inertia brakes work really well...assuming the car being hauled is drivable. But they won't rent to older trucks? Bah.

When I wanted to tow my 67 from NC ot OH U-haul wanted over $400 for a tailer or car dolly!?!? I ended up asking around. I found a friends, friend's, cousins, brother had a trailer that was sitting at their friends farm. Ask people at work etc.

There is a place in Bonney Lake that rents trailers to me. I can't think of the name right now. You interested? I believe it was $70 a day.

Yes! I am so game  We could have it at roachriders and hang out in his driveway revving our engines, his neighbors would be SO happy!! :D :D  Whadaya say Aaron? think they'd mind?

That is so weird that they wouldn't let you rent a trailer. I was talking to them about renting one when I was looking at this car and they didn't seem to have any problem with it :dk: stupid :hmm:

you know, there is an old orange one sitting for sale on the way to Bremerton right near the water where the hiway goes around the water in a U-turn? (what the heck is that called anyways, Liz?)
its in a lot that says equipment for sale, and has been there for the year I have been going up there. you might check it out. there is an old bus there also.
I'm still game for the meet and greet tho, and the offer is still out there for snooziums for the tow.

on second thought, what the heck are you going to tow that with??!
I dont think I have ever seen a 2.5 or 5-ton on anything smaller than a semi and low-boy combo, and I think (IMHO) that the f250 in your sig will be a bit outmatched! even flat-towing that would kill your brakes, not to mention the hills out that way.
again, just my :2cents:

72highboy4x4: The trailer I'm building has drums on every axle, so six drums altogether, activated by the air signal from the truck. I figure towing something that heavy will be a 3am, creep along back roads sort of deal :-) Basically, if I ever come across one that I "can't pass up", I want to be ready no matter what it takes. It would be stupid to lose it over a little matter like it doesn't run....the woman hates me for thinking like that...I'm gonna cruise up towards bremerton on the bike for a job tomorrow so I'll see if I can find the place you're talking about. Do you know what agency the orange color originated from or was it a private party?

Heep70: Thanks, I appreciate it. Could you PM me the info when you find it?
Thanks,

I call it the armpit of the county, but its commonly known as Gorst  I know the one you're talking about. I'm not sure who its for sale through, its just off to the side of the road there if I remember correctly :hmm:

What?! Did I hear meet-n-greet? :D

Roachrider, you're referring to those multi-fuel 6 wheel drive monsters? I wanted one for the longest time. I've priced them out for $2000-$5000 depending on condition and equipment. But that was way back when. Those 5 tons are insanely huge! I would have bought one at the time but didn't have a place to park it. Can't just leave those guys parked in residential streets. I'd still want one if I had the room. Hey, remember that dude on one of the Tremors movies drove a multi-fuel.

I used to drive the old 5 tons when I worked for the state ..A LOT of fun most of the driving I did was off road so you just put it in low range and go . The engines on most of the old army truck are not muffled so after the initial excitement of driving it and listening to the engine , you put ear plugs in :hmm:
here is a link for you guys who are interested in these trucks http://www.easternsurplus.net/ check out the 4 wheel version they have
Oh and by the way the suggestion about the non-corporate uhaul - that is the way I tow things , basically they say it isn't our equipment so we dont care .
