no headlights!!!

Post by layedout72 »

so i think this previous owner rigged the headlights, and I need to figure where he butchered it. The wiring is there going to the headlight, in the engine bay, they worked before, and I un-jumbled a next of wires which I guess would come to be the headlights....

Any clues as to what could have been done? The switch is still wired to the dome light, because full turned left it pops the dome light on...

first check the fuses. the unjubbled wires are they all still connected or did you just cut them off and throw them away. that might be the problem in that jubbled mess of wires. thats my first guess since they worked before.

well, heres what i found out. all fuses are fine. BOTH light plugs are getting power. sitting around 11.5 volts. wierd thing though, the light switch works without the key in the ignition, and i want to say the turn signals do too....

either way, it may just be the bulbs, no telling how old they are at this point. also, the driver side t-signal doesnt work, though the pass side does. havent checked power on that yet though. both blinkers IN THE CAB come on and flash, just no outside front light....all the rears work.

well te headlights do work without the key as they do on about 99% of all vehicle past to present.

Probably the bulbs.

the turns should not work without the key.

You might check with fordman he may have an unmolested(or mostly so) harness i got mine from him.

it could just be the plugs are dirty from sitting. clean everything up and plug it back in and try it. i dont have any good harnesses right now.
