Have your dad stand behind the truck and put the key on acc, then manually (with your hand) move the neutral safety switch all the way to the left and see if the lights turn on :?

my dad got new bulbs and put them in but it stilll didnt work. he also found out that power is going into the reverse switch, powere is going out of it, and there is no power at the bulbs. the sockets seem to be fine also.
at least i i found the plug :D . this is the plug that is in the second pic on the first page, right?

i dont think this pic is useful to you guys but hear it is.

i relooked at the wiring under the bumper for PO wiring and i did find some funky wiring down there.

well i dont have to worry about the driving test anymore because my brother could have gotten away with no reverse lights and with a very dim blinker, but the horn is a necessary thing. my brother didnt know if it worked or not so he pressed lightly and it didnt work. if he had of pressed harder it would of worked and he could of used the truck.

my dad and i tested this plug Imageand it definetly works. so the switch works and that plug works. doesnt that narrow the problem down to only the wiring from the switch to the bulb?

and where does that plug i just tested go to?

i think so . the wiring harness i have here is for a manual transmission so it is hard to keep up with what you are testing. but yess i thinki comes back trough the switch and then onto the reverse lights or maybe it just goes straight to the lights i am unsure without completely unwrapping my harness.

you dont need to go through the trouble of unwrapping the harness. ill do that maybe tomorrow. tomorrow my dad is going to teach me how to test wires so i can start testing more wires.ill write down the wires that are hot and the wires that are not. then i will copy that info onto this thread. tomorrow i hope to have my problem fixed or positivaly narrowed down to only the wires going from the switch to the sockets.

i cant trace the plug under the hodd to anywhere because of all the electrical tape covering all the wires, so im cutting all the tape off tomorrow hopefully.it will also help me trace the two switches on my dash that i dont even know there purpose.

thanks for the help. ill let you know how it goes

On mine I have to push the shifter all the way to the left in R. If I just put it where it says R the lights wont come on lol. So when my mom or dad drives it ever time I have to tell them when you put it in R push it over to the left as far as it will go. I took my driver test in my old truck the horn did not work and some other lil stuff and the guy did not even go to look to see if ever thing worked lol. And that day takeing the test I was sitting at the stop light and my truck died :x so I got it running and it did it once more lol and I was starting to get mad and the guy said just take it slow son. The only way I had the truck running I was having to power brake it and he looked over and I said im sorry about this and he guy smile and said its a old ford its ok I had one did the same thing to me and he said I bet you have a gas leak and you did not fill it up and it needs just a lil gas and I looked over at him and said im shocked you know whats wrong and at the end of it I passed with a A+++. LOL and that was the only time my truck has ever done that

i would rewire it back where the po goofed the wiring bet that is the problem.

should be

brown- Tail/running lights/license plte light
light green(w or w/o black stripe) RH turn/brake
yellow w/black stripe LH turn/brake

black w/red stripe Reverse lamps.

lso if you still have the original harness connection those sometimes corode bad inside.

also i have seen the lights either burnt up or pulled appart just under the cab on the driver side.

guess what!

i fixed them and boy do i feel stupid!
well, i was unwrapping wires to trace all the mystery switches i have when i reallized that i havent even tried to loosen the switch screws on the switch like how someone told me about on this thread. so i had my bro watch the lights and i loosened the screws on the switch (i dont know how it helps but hey, it worked!) and i wiggled the lever over reverse. and WHALAM! you have to hold the lever up a little though so ill adjust that later. all the trouble my dad and i went through and all i had to do was loosed the switch screws up a bit! but i still couldnt have done it without this thread because im sure they wouldn't have worked if i didnt clean the switch contacts and i wouldnt of known about loosing/tightining the switch screws.

Thanks for the help!
