LH Rear blinker not working

Post by theogre5150 »

My blinker is not working on the back of the truck (driver's side). It's not the bulb. I checked that. The running lights work and the blinker works on the front of the truck.

it could be the socket or the grounds have you looked under the rear bumper to see if there are any wires unhooked? do you have power at the socket?

The running lights come on, just not the blinker.

then it could be in the wiring in under the dash and or in the steering column. was it working and then just quit or was you doing something and then it quit?

I don't think it has worked since I got the truck. Both are working in the front.

Could be the turn signal switch...
Look at this diagram http://www.fordification.com/images/sch ... _quick.jpg it will be the same for your 71... Take a test light to the connector for the wires coming out of the collum and test the Green wire. This is the one for the left turn / brake light, the Green with White strip is for the front left turn light...
If you don't have any power there on this Green wire then your turn signal switch is bad...

Check that all the screws are tight on the light body. I'd check the socket and make sure the contacts are clean. Clean them good. Then put in a bulb that known to work and check it again.

What you have is a classic symptom of a broken wire on the turn signal switch. I'd pop off the steering wheel to have a look.

I'm gonna try and do that tonight. I hope it's something simple like that.

does this have the trailer wire harness in tact check that as well some of the connections at where its tied in,, it might be corroded for the signal wire even if it seems taped well they still need attention every now and again.

i had power coming out that very wire from the column but through the harness on the other side of the firewall it didn't get the power so i bypassed it just south of the plug.

also iunless 72 is different from the other years the lh turn signal/ brake is yell with black stripe.

also if the brake lite on that side works then it is the bucket/socket not getting enough or any ground to light the turn but then it would burn solid though :hmm:
