speaker wire question

Post by flyboy2610 »

I plan to install a Highliner in my truck. You know, the plastic headliner with the four speakers in it? I'm not installing a stereo up there, though, as I plan to put that in the dash. I'm installing (well, HAVE installed) a small Cobra CB radio. My plan is to have all the wires come down the inside of the drivers door pillar, and then when I do the interior, drill a hole behind the dash, through the cab side, and bring the wires into the cab.
My question is this: will the power wire for the CB cause interference on my speakers, having the speaker wires in such close proximity (touching, in fact) to the power wire?
I could bring the CB power wire down the passenger side pillar, but I'd still have a problem on the drivers side, as I'm going to install power windows and remote door locks. So I'd STILL have power wires going into the cab there.
Ideas? :?

im not sure it would or wouldnt cause iterference but i would think you could put some sort of noise reducer on the line to help that problem if it came up.

Why not just run the speaker wires down the passenger side? I believe there's already some holes there under the dash for the antenna anyway. Could be wrong, am from time to time.

I thought about that, too, but I'm going to have power going to the windows and door locks on the passenger door.
I'm trying to get by without drilling a lot of holes in the sides of the cab.

No, you shouldn't have any problems. Think about all the 12V wires around a factory radio and speaker up under the dash...they don't cause any problems.

That's what I was hoping, and I have seen the tangle under the dash around the radio. If that doesn't cause trouble, I'll go for it and post back.
Now, how to hold that thing up there while I drill the screw holes? :? :?

There is already a hole on each side so no drilling is required. The right side does have the antenna going through it. The left side is in the top hinge hole way up high to where you can hardly find it but it's there

Yea, I did, but I don't recall the details. Old age, ya know.
Send me another one. Thanks.

Well, I got the Highliner installed. It went pretty well, and I got all the wires fed down the drivers side door pillar.
I didn't notice, until I was all done and had it installed, that I now have the short end of two screws poking through my roof on the right rear. :x :x
Time for the grinder and welder.

Yea, that was one of those "D'oh! " moments. The reason I didn't have that problem on the drivers side is that I noticed that when I was putting pressure on the drill to drill through the inner wall of the cab, it flexed and went right up next to the outer wall. I placed a 1/4" square piece of hardwood stock between the inner and outer walls, and that kept it from flexing, so the drill and screw didn't go all the way through. By the time I did the passenger side a couple days later, I had forgotten about that, so..........
So anybody who installs one of these, make sure to add a spacer between the inner and outer walls along the back edge.
