I need a lift.
So... newbie here... I love my 1970 all white Ford P/U. All stock, 3 on the column, 302, LB. I plan to keep everything stock except for a couple of things. Wheels, I plan to use the same wheels but have them extended and add bigger tires and buy new ford 1970 hubs. Give the truck an all-around 4"lift(is not a 4 wheel drive). Have any of you any clue as to how give my Ford a decent looking yet tough 4" lift for a non 4-wheel drive??

The way to go would be a body lift, but you may have to worry about shift linkage

to the site.
Not sure there is a decent suspension lift for a 2x. A 4" body lift would be a bit much as stated above about the linkages. Also you would have to custom move the bumpers to make it look real.

re: I need a lift.
With a body lift you have to contend with the front and rear bumpers, steering column, shift linkage (which would be a royal PIA with a three-on-the-tree!), fuel tank line (if keeping the in-cab tank), emergency brake cables, etc.
Check out THIS PAGE from AutoFab. They make suspension lift kits for 2WD trucks in both 3" and 5" kits for the Pre-Runner look...but they're pricey.

re: I need a lift.
rear blocks and some front coils should do it you may not be able to lift the front 4 but I imagine 2-3 with coils woudnt be asking much....

re: I need a lift.
I was on a site last year that had all kinds of cool pre-runner stuff for the 2wd early I-beam Fords. Unless you need the body lift for tire clearance they are, ... well I won't say what I think as I might insult some people. It's just that I don't do anything just for looks that compromises function.

I agree If your not gona use the body lift for tire clearance then DONT use it and if you do use it only use the 1-2 inch kit..there's plenty of stuff out there just gota look around....

re: I need a lift.
Well then... I want a 2" suspension lift instead. Where I wanna take my f-100 is through some mighty -slightly rough terrain. So a suspension lift would be beaut. I also plan to widen the stock wheels and put bigger tires to it.

Hey Jim, I am in the same boat with wanting just a little more lift on the front end. JC Whittney sells a set of brackets for lifting the front end but only for late 70's and newer. It looks the same as what is on my 71, but I don't know. Thanks for the post.

re: I need a lift.
I talked to a guy that lives near me, and his f250 had 33" tires all the way around.
when I asked him about it, he said he picked up "some spindles at the parts house in town and bolted them right on for clearance". couldn't get much else info on them.
I assumed the rear was lifted with blocks.
looked real goood tho!

re: I need a lift.
Body lifts are crap and only cause problems IMHO. Autofab has quality stuff as I have ordered a few things. Motor mounts for the 360-390 are more than worth it if you use the truck and tear out the crappy mounts on a regular basis. As for the lifts this one would be good for your need and not too bad for what your getting... http://www.autofab.com/65-79.htm you'd be able to fit the larger tires and add a limited slip, with a little offroading skill you'd be able to go where most 4wd trucks are going excluding the jeep oriented trails and rock crawling stuff. The more expensive 16in travel kit is for the more hardcore prerunner style of offroading.. http://www.autofab.com/wheel.htm. <--- might wanna add a rollcage with this kit cuz it's gonna go over when having a little too much fun. if the 70 camper special with 11ft camper I'm pickin up this weekend is good shape and the camper is crap I'll be lookin into the prerunner kit myself.
