67 Project Update 6/1/2023 (Multiple New Posts With Pictures)
I originally started in this forum...

but I decided to start posting here.
I finally got my truck into the garage. I was wanting to keep things as simple as possible. However, each time I remove a part, I notice something else. This old truck has some rust issues. I did buy a mig welder to do patch panels. I figure I will learn how, just practice, practice, practice...
So far I have removed the bed, hood, fenders, doors, and one inner fender. I don't get much time to work on her, but I try to at least a little each evening.

OK, I'm ready to either clean the engine, roll the cab onto it's back or work on the steering components. However, I don't know which to do first.
So, anyone with any suggestions would help. Do I fix the steering first? Clean the engine first(I'm not planning on pulling the engine)? or Do I roll the cab onto it's back? I have never done a project like this before so I don't want to go out of order.
What has worked best for you guys???

i would say for sure clean the engine first, then work on the cab and steering, i know this from personal experiences, when i painted something then cleaned something, i had to paint something again....

Take the steps to do it all at once, but manage your time on a section at a time. Taking the steering out will allow you to roll the cab back. By doing that....you can clean the engine/tranny. So my schedule of events would be, engine cleaning, body working, steering work. That way when you get the engine cleaned, the body back on, the steering in, it's all ready to drive again!

Yeah, I'd roll the cab back and out of the way, then buy a case of oven cleaner and spay it all down and let it soak for an hour and then pressure wash it all. Then you can inspect and replace the parts you need to replace, paint the front end, frame, and engine. Then you can work on the cab in between while it's rolled back to do the work (as needed) underneath, then paint the bottom and roll it back into place. Then you can work on the interior of the cab, the back, any wiring inside and start cleaning the front-end sheet metal parts to get them reinstalled.
It's a nice truck. Great trim package. I'd love to have the gutter stainless on mine!
The picture of you driving it was classic with the old lady watching. People must think we're nuts! I know my neighbors must have thought that of me when I first drove up in mine blowing smoke and all. Now I get compliments all the time. Have paitience and the reward is worth it!

As far as the oven cleaner... I have repainted my oil pan when I removed to check the screen and rod bearings. Will the oven cleaner hurt the paint job? Never used oven cleaner to clean the engine. I did see another post on here about the process, but again, I've never used it on a vehicle.
