i have some good news and some bad news.
the bad news is that that button isnt for oil slicks.
the good news is that i was able to trace alot of the wires coming from the button(5 of 6 or something like that).
2 go and end at the glovebox.
1 goes to the thingy on top of the in cab tank.
1 goes to the unit under the cab that all the hoses go into. here is a picture if you dont know what im talking about:
1 goes into the engine compartment, and into the frame rail, the it goes in between the rail and the under bed tank and it doesnt comeout the other side so it must go to the under bed tank.
so im thinking that this button is the fuel tank switcher. or a fuel gauge switcher if there is even such a thing. what do you think it is?

re: questions about my truck
Yep, looks like someone decided to wire in an electric solenoid to switch between fuel tanks, replacing the manual valve that came stock on our trucks. That might be the setup from a dentside-era truck...they had such a solenoid, and the dash switch was by the heater controls.

They don't sell just the lens. You will need to buy the entire warning light. They still sell them but I can't remember where I saw them. Probably DC. You can also go to a junk yard and try to find one there. I see them all the time whenever I go. Here it is lit up:
