ignition key

Post by tboneshep »

I replaced the key ignition on the 68 F-250, I was able to start the truck about 10 times. Now when the key is inserted, it will not turn either way, to start or accessories. Brand new iginition. Tried to insert paper clip in the little hole to release the barrell, but it will not turn either when the key is in it. Any ideas? I will have to get it out to take back to parts-plus if you think it's just a bad switch. Will try WD40 tonight. Thanks.

I'd say the new key just isn't ground correctly. You probably just got very lucky the first few times you used it. Putting a paper clip in the release hole won't allow you to extract it, since they key has to be turned to do that anyway.

If it's not working, and wiggling it won't work either, your only alternative is to take it back and try again. :( However, you'll have to take the whole ignition switch assembly out, not just the guts.

maybe there is something in it. once you take the whole switch out tap it in to your hand anfds ee if something falls out of it. if not takeit back to the store and have them replace what thier key switch messed up.
