dropping seat..
anybody done this? probably doing to do this tomorrow as I have the day off. It sits too close to the wheel, im a big guy, so i think dropping it down an inch or so would help a lot. Anyone have opinions?

I don't know about dropping the seat, but have you considered an aftermarket steering wheel? If you have PS, a smaller wheel could gain you some space.

I personally like the huge wheel, and I have manual steering to boot.

re: dropping seat..
There isn't a way to easily 'drop' the seat...unless you're going to fabricate some different mounting brackets. And I fail to see how lowering the seat an inch is going to give you any more room between you and the steering wheel.
If it was me, I'd go with an aftermarket wheel. You can simply get one with the same outside diameter but one with less of a 'dish' to it...something that's flatter...like a van steering wheel, which is flat with no dish.

Hey Keith...
Thanks for the idea on using a van steering wheel...
I have the same problem as layedout72, with the steering wheel.
Ive not paid attention to van steering wheels from the bump era...
do they look similar to our stock ones?
I was going to switch to a smaller wheel when I convert to PS, but I think I like your idea better.
Thanks

Yes, they're pretty close. However, the center hub is much larger. I'm with the understanding that these are a direct interchange though. Here's one from a '69:kaptnkaos wrote:...Ive not paid attention to van steering wheels from the bump era...

Thanks Keith...
Yeah, that looks pretty darn close.
I like that idea better than changing to a aftermarket one.
Now to just find a van with that kinda of steering wheel in good condition.
Thanks again

re: dropping seat..
Not sure if this may be an issue but... check to make sure that the flatter dish will not put your fingers to close to the shifter and turn signal lever... This from past experience

Hey Thunderfoot...
that's a good point... never even thought about that...
I have a floor shift so no prob there, but there maybe a prob with the turn signal switch...
I wonder if I can find one to check it out.
