Dash Pad

Post by theskytoucher »

I am just reporting to you guys that i got my Dash pad from california mustang (the one that just had them for %50 off) and i got it installed last night but didnt get any pics so ill post those tonight!!! overall it looks good but it doesnt seem to fit just right, there is quite a large gap between the pad and the windshield, is this normal for repo pads?
Thanks

Mine is original and has a pretty good size gap. I wish I coulda jumped at that deal, too. I'm jealous. :(

Sorry to let my dissapointment show so bad with the first post. Overall it's an 'OK' reproduction part because I've never had a repro part fit like an OEM part (even the DC wheel lip mouldings I bought for my '68 fairlane were formed wrong!!!). I've spent the rest of the day gutting the doors and getting ready for paint after fixing somw more rust with the dash still sitting there and it's starting to grow on me. The wife even likes it better than the blue one without a speaker grill... My alternative is a near perfect black '69 pad with a hole in each front corner where some spotlight handles poked through.

Hope is not lost although faith was shaken.

Mine came in today, I looked it over and am glad I didnt pay full price for it. I am not bitching too much, it does look alot better than the busted up blue one I had, but its going to take some work to make it ok.

I didn't think the original's fit that good either.

However, the dash pad WAS an afterthought on these trucks in the mid 60's as well as GM, Dodge and others.

I guess they forgot to put the steel inner structure in mine then... The box the pad came in was marks dash pad and made in Colorado so who knows...

That's very interesting... 'cause I would not have ordered mine if it had NOT said that (about the steel inner structure). If mine comes without it, I think I'll call and dispute it. "No returns" on "final sales" is one thing... blatant mis-advertising is another. Take a screenshot of that page!

Can anyone who has replaced their dashpads with those from DC, NPD, JCWhitney, etc. verify if they had this same issue? Or are those repop's pretty much the same as the old one you pulled off? The pictures of this one almost look more like a dash pad cover...

Feeling around mine more, the widshield edge has some metal in it,but the seat side bolts are just cast in the rubber and can flex around. Poking around my old one it's similiar, only real exception is the defroster vents are cast in the rubber on the original and the material is thinner there as well.
