Oil pan drain

The pan on my 390 has the oil drain directly over the crossmember so oil currently just drains all over the crossmember when draining. Where should the oil drain be on the correct OEM pan?

I'm tempted to just machine a new threaded bung and weld it in on the tail end of the pan, using lots of damp rags to keep the metal from getting too warm and lighting any oil residue.

The 67 F100 w/352 that I had did the same thing. That was stock.

I don't know about the oil pan. I rebuilt the engine for a friend a number of years back, he provided all the parts and block. He then sold the truck to me, LOL.

That's normal. My 360 drained there too. It's a pain in the butt.

Most people just live with it, by building a sheetmetal 'channel' to divert the draining oil to a bucket....or they get their hands on either an FT pan (full sump) or a rear-sump pan out of a 4x4, either of which will keep the crossmember a LOT cleaner.

My 390 drains on the crossmember as well. I'd say you probably have the OEM pan on there.
