help, PLEASE

Post by layedout72 »

Starter Solenoid PROBLEMS.

We have power to the battery side, and we also have power to the RIGHT side where the coil hooks to. If your looking at it head on, it's the right side terminal, not where the starter hooks up, but the little post. When we click it over to start, we get power on the left one as well. Is this correct? We get power to the coil and all only when clicked over to one click right, and turned all the way.

Is this correct?

Also, do these trucks have a stater wire? Also, what about an alt excite wire?

the little one on the left is the start, and the one on the right is the ignition. it should have power when you turn the key to start(position). If im wrong please correct me because something would be seriously wrong with mine if that was the case. lol

okay, we have it correct. we have it clicking, our problem was it wasn't grounded well.

now my problem is the voltage regulator. we smoked it......smoked it GOOD. Now, I can splice where I need splicing, and I can connect where I need connecting, but I SWEAR we had it wired right.......but I have been wrong before. So, that being said.....what is "correct".

Well,I believe when you blow something up theres normally (read: Always) a reason that it happened! lol Well, I believe I know why my regulator smoked! This rebel harness wire diagram showed the alt exciter wire going into the "I" post on the regulator. No need to tell me that's wrong! After staring at the 70 diagram full on for close to 30-45 minutes I begin to realize. A= Alternator...S=Stater...F= Field.....there's a pattern here! "I" doesn't mean EXCITER. I=instrument. As in instrument panel lol. Go figure 5 hours of wiring and one wrong wire to mess us all up!

Tell me I am right here?

And, as for a double check.....white/black alt wire is ground, orange capped is Field, and Black cover/hood wire is power.

Is there no stater?

"I" could = the Exciter wire as it is marked on the 3G alternator... Also note that this Exciter wire needs a resistor in line or resistor wire... This is going to be the same for the voltage regulator...

I think we figured it out, I believe the "I" wire goes up to the ammeter, and the violet splices in there. It's not really needed.
