So I have been reading and it seems I cannot get an AM/FM up at KMART that will fit into the bezel without cutting it. Is this correct?
I also found where you can use some volvo thing and turn it upside down. But believe this is only for a special type of stereo. Is this correct?
Will mounting this stereo be anything difficult? I have mounted a few stereos in my day...
If I have to cut this bezel, I will - but would hate to do it. Maybe I will get one of the AM/FM Ford ones, but they seem very expensive.
Please, if you have any ideas for me that are inexpensive, please reply.
AM/FM only is preferred with maybe CD or IPOD, but that is not necessary.
Best to you..

i got a just AM at the junk yard the other day for 15.00. looks soo much better than the black hole i used to have in my dash. i have a post with pictures called "junk yard radio". i am also going to put a nice stereo with ipod in the glove box. the AM is just for looks pretty much.
stock am/fm radios are very expensive in my opinion and i dont know how people mount newer stereos into the stock hole but its doable. my .02

hmmm I dunno about K-Mart, but Wal*Mart carries a decent am/fm cassette that will fit the stock benzel.
The one I saw had a 1/8' stereo input so you can plug a cd player or whatever right into the amp.
There are also some companies that still make some nice high end stuff especially for these old style applications.
I bought another stock benzel and cut it with a dremel tool and diamond cutoff disks.
A cd player fits into the cut benzel perfectly with the mounting kit that normally comes with the cd player... the metal box with the pop out tangs.
That makes a nice clean looking install... and, you stll have your stock benzel...

E-bay is full of listings for inexpensive (used) in-dash shaft-mount stereos, most of which shouldn't require you to cut the bezel. If you go with a DIN-style mount, like what is used on the newer CD players, then you'll need the Volvo mounting kit, unless you get creative.

The one was at Wal*Mart..
NPD has a couple of differant ones that you can also run a JVC 12 disk changer to... its pretty spendy...
$199.95 for the head unit and $354.95 for the changer..
I know with a little research, you can find a good set up for your bump.
I removed the behind the seat tank in my '68 and will be building a custom behind the seat sub-box.
The amp will mount either under the seat or on the box itself.
I have a couple of old high tech speakers (they look like the medium sized surround sound speakers) that mount with brackets to the doors.
Two small screw holes in the bottom of the doors... no speakers holes in the door panels, and no rattles. I hate rattles.
The one thing I haven't done is figure out where to mount some good hi power mini dome tweets.
I'm thinkin' either a pair of 10's or 12's in the behind the seat box...
Though I do have a nice 15" Peavy Black Widow out of one of my old bass cabs that I could use... that might be over kill... but it would ROCK !!!

This way you still have the old radio. And for the speakers I just got to wallmart speaker boxes and put them in the floor. The speakers are 220w for two of them way was 69 bucks. And the radio was 100. Bad thing about the boxes if you don;t have them fasend down they will slide on you. The radio box was held down by velcro

re: Got the Bezel for my 70'. Now I need a stereo
I just put a radio in my 72. I went to the junkyard and got another radio bezel, and cut the middle of the bezel out to accept the cage deal that my cd player sits in. A little black paint and some epoxy and the cage was locked onto the chrome bezel. Then, I took the stock single speaker out of the dash, and mounted two 4 inch speakers in its place.
Sounds good, and the CD player doesn't look so out of place because it has the stock chrome bezel around it.
I just need to touch up the black paint a little.
