dash touch up paint.
is there such a thing as dash touch up paint ? there are some chips in my dash that i would like to cover with a little touch up paint. ive never seen such a thing though. and I am not going to repaint my whole dash.
i would also like to paint my glove box the original interior blue color. here is a picture of my dash. is there any place that sells original interior color paints for our trucks?
thanks

re: dash touch up paint.
If you can determine the exact color from your VIN color code, (from the pics maybe its Bahama Blue?), you could try these guys for touch up paint.

You may end up painting the whole dash in the end though to get the look you want.

re: dash touch up paint.
You'd actually be happier by painting the entire dash, so that everything WILL match. Trying to get touch-up paint to match a faded dash (and be invisible) will be next to impossible.

Agree.
Not telling you what to do Ryan, but you would be surprised at how easily you could mask off and prep the whole dash to paint. Easy one day project, and at your age there's no big hurry

well the dash is in really good condition except for maybe 4 small chips. i just wish i could get a similiar glove box door color. its not worth repainting the whole dash to have a matching glove box in my opinion. too bad no one selse a "faded touch up paint" . it would be too hard to get a exact fade though

No problem Ryan, maybe just paint the glove box door and see how it looks. Then decide if you want to go further.

You wouldn't be painting the dash to get a matching glovebox door. You'd be painting it to make it purty, and to fix the chips...the matching glovebox door is just an added bonus.1971ford wrote:well the dash is in really good condition except for maybe 4 small chips. i just wish i could get a similiar glove box door color. its not worth repainting the whole dash to have a matching glove box in my opinion...
So why not just do it? It wouldn't take more than an afternoon's worth of work and a single rattlecan of the correct paint. Seems simple enough to me....and it would be a good first step to getting your truck fixed up. If you mentioned it, then it bothers you...so fix it!

re: dash touch up paint.
Hi Keith,
I saw the post and wanted to ask if I order the paint from the site in the post qand paint my dash with it do you think it will look as good as the original. Ie will it have a shine to it or appear flat.

re: dash touch up paint.
With the proper prep, there's no reason why it couldn't look as good as a factory paint job.
When spray-painting, keep the can level, gliding back and forth across the surface, terminating spray at the end of each pass. Begin with a light coat and allow it to dry completely before the next coat. The second coat needs to be a pinch heavier, while the third and final coat should be a wet coat--but without the runs!

if it werent for all the switches and everything i would paint it. If i was going to paint it, i wouldnt be happy with painting everything around the cluster/switches/everything else because it would just feel unfinished. Im just going to repaint the glovebox. plus, right now i have plenty projects going on right now. like headliner/visors/heater/ac system/paintjob/dupliliner truck bed/engine bay painting/windsheild rubber replacement/ and im sure there is more. so im just a little busy with projects right now. it would be nice to have a freshly painted dash but not worth taking everything out for just a little bit better looking dash. ok, maybe a lot better, but too many half finished projects.

re: dash touch up paint.
You could find some one with a color matching computer like dupont jobbers have. Its called chromavision. They take this small computer type of a camera and take pictures of it and the main system when they plug it in to it will print out a formula for the faded color.
