Glass rubbers

Post by OLE69F100 »

How hard is it to replace the seals on the front and back glass? Is it something the average shade tree can do or is it best left to the pros. I just bought a 70' and it needs them bad you can check out the pic's in the General forum.

I've worked in a glass shop for over a year. And ill tell you now let the pros do it. About a year after I stoped working there I wanted to do my back glass and the windshield. Well the back glass is easy. The windshield is a hole diff bag of beens!!!. I all most got mine in I was 7mm from having it and it just woad not move at all. So I called scott the boss at the shop and he said just come on in tomorrow. Well 4 of us tryed to get it in and there was no way. So adam his son was going to try and take it out and then it went. So they got me a new free windshield. Its not clear but it has the shaded part at the top witch it is a lot better for the sun.
the windshield was 300 bucks from them and I did not have to pay for it. So thats why I say take it to the pros if they bust it they payfor it if you bust it your out 200 or w/ae $$$$.

It took 4 of us to put it in!!!

Just to out in a new rubber no all to much just the cost of the rubber and the lador HUMMMMM 70 bucks maybe. And they will tell you theres a risk of busting it. If you do it your self and it cracks then your out a windshield and it will cost more money then if you took it to a shop to start with. And this is comeing from a """licensed windshield installer tec"""" I have the paper to show it. People will ask me to do there old car windshields and I just wont do it. If I bust it I pay for it. I have some friends with some 60s f 100 and they don't know any thing about them and they want me to do all kinds of stuff sense im the only one that knows out of the bunch and I wont do it. Now if they buy ever thing they need ill come over and tell them how to do it and stand there wile there working on and ill tell them what there doing wrong. + thats the best way to learn any thing.

In all my years as a body man i only busted one windshield and it was on a chebby. It was like a 75 or so i had it all in and was putting the little metal trim in on the bottom that covers the ends of the zipper and it just cracked. I had done hundreds of them before and no problems ever i think it was just a faulty glass to begin with.

I always told my customers that there is no guaranty that the glass wont brake. Because just a little scalop chip on the edge can cause a big crack if stressed just right.
