heat control switch, resistor or ?

Post by Banjo »

On my 68 heater box, it has a little electrical switch that is mounted to cheezy little phenolic type cardboard strip bolted to the heater box assy with 2 sheet metal screws. I thought it was in Dennis Carpenter catalog, but I cannot find. This the electrical switch on a 68 that controls the heat mounted to the box under dash. I had thought it was called Blower Motor Resistor, or heater motor resistor, but cannot locate and do local parts houses sell? Mine tore upon removal for heater box cleaning and greasing and I need this part. What you think?

if it helps any, this little electrical switch has 3 flat bladed "spades" or prongs that are on the outside of the cardboard/fiberboard peice that bolts to heater box under dash with 2 sheet metal screws. On the inside of this switch are long spring looking wires (inside the heater box).
Has no one else ran into this when working on their heater box assy on a 68? I guess this switch used for many years and I guess controls voltage to blower motor to make different speeds (ergo why I "think" it's called a blower motor resistor). I can't find in any resto catalogs, maybe I"m overlooking though.

Fordman, what's really bad is that I'm positive I've read on here a source before for this little resistor thing and it's only like $13 or so, but I've ran alot of searches and looked at LMC and Dennis Carpenter and NAtional Parts Depot and not seeing it.
My problem came in with removing heater box assy from firewall and trying to unplug the electrical plug from this little cardboard deal and it busted and then the resistor (wire wound) kinda "unsprung" or I could just JB Weld the cardboard. I think it's purpose is to have resistance of different values on lower blower motor switch and no resistance on "high". BUT, I will keep you in mind, by the way, the choke cable installed well. Mac's (http://www.macsautoparts.com) lists a heater blower motor resistor for a 73-79 that might work. It's $11. The part number is C9AZ-18591-A. Good luck. If you find the right part let us know. I ended up repairing mine.
