A/C on bunp side

I guess I had this question on the wrong forum. Does anyone know if any one out there can rebuild the original a/c systems reliably? I have heard that classic air has a drop in system, but I have heard some folks moaning that it isn't as easy as the company says. My truck has what looks like all the origianal parts from the factory however it does not work and I would hate to spend money on something that will be unreliable. I'm rebuilding the truck and it would be nice to have air on it, but I don't want to go through the pain and expense of putting one in if its just more aggrivation.

any suggestions welcome.

I dont know if this is exactly what your looking for, but i rebuilt this heater/ac i got from the junkyard and the heat works great now. i have not tested a/c though since i dont have a few a/c parts. here is a link to the rebuild post.

rebuilding the factory box probably wouldnt be all that hard or expensive. the only expensive thing it the case would be the evaporator coil. the rest of the system is hoses a compressor and the coil in fornt of the radiator as well as the dryer. but you will want to put a new dryer on it anyway no matter what you do. try hooking up guages to the system first before you sspend any money on it. and check the head pressure and the system pessure. that will tell you something about the condition of it.

I already have taken it apart. While the motor ran, the clutch would not enguage. I suspect that it was just set up to look like it would work with just a little work. Does anyone have experience with installing the Classic Air system without problems? Trying to find a good a/c person that knows what they are doing to check out my original system is a problem where I live.
