Hey all I dug this out of the wood work. They had been lost during the move and recently found all the parts. I powder coated the surround and was thinking about using this old tach my Grandfather gave me. What do you think?
Is it a mechanical or electric one?
most of the f-500's and up had mechanical ones...
If the tach is a mechanical one, you'll have to get the matching dizzy and drive cable for it to work.
Since the big bumps mostly had FT series engines instead FE's that may not be possible.
If it's electric... man you got it made

Just my opinion, but even for a daily driver you'd probably want a tach that reads a little higher. The big trucks didn't turn high RPM's, so a 4-grand tach was all that was necessary. However, even if you don't plan on hot-rodding around, I'd still suggest at least a 6-grand tach. Redline on an FE is around 5K, so it's probably better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it...know what I mean?

I powdercoated this one myself. The powder is a single stage chrome mix from Pendry powdercoating. Being that Grandpa worked on semi trucks all his life, I'd say this gauge was intended for a deisel. It is an electric gauge though. I was thinking of using it if I did the 300 swap but that's not looking likely.
Sheesh, I look around in my closets and all I find are clothes that used to fit me, but are a little tight now and a little dried up present the cat left for me. But to date, no cool Ford parts!
That's interesting, the box says 0-6000 RPM. Wonder if it was a swapped out unit? I'm running a 4000rpm tach and it worked fine with the 360. 3k was about as high as it would rev anyway, I usually shifted between 2000 - 2500 rpm. With the diesel it's gonna be perfect.
