battery cover with knobs

Post by 1971ford »

i was looking through the NPD catalog i just got and noticed that they are selling a cover that makes the battery look just like the one in avatar for this forum section. do those knobs really do anything? i know they dont on the cover, but on the real one, do they do anything?
or are they suppose to look "cool".

I haven't looked up the avatar you speak of, but if memory serves me on what you are describilng it is the older style battery that you could add/check the acid level in. Has like six (I think) red screws on top right?

Those aren't "knobs", they're lids...or caps. This is the older style of battery where you can check the electrolyte levels for each set of plates inside. This style of battery is reproduced for folks who are doing 'correct' restorations, as it was the style used when our trucks were being produced.

However, today's sealed no-maintenance batteries are much better, and should be used for a driver.

Hate to argue....but you damn sure don't want a sealed battery in Texas.
You gotta add some water every now & then. Summer is GOOD for battery sales in the Lone Star State
