interior disassembly for possible paint
im thinking about painting my interior since it has lots of small paint chips, im going to be having the front and back windows removed for replacing the rubbers and the glovebox door doesnt match. I want to know how hard it will be to take everything apart and re-assemble. plus it would be good to know the following for the future.
1)how do you take the knobs and knob bezels(for example, the headlight knob and the part that says "headlights") out?
2)how hard would it be to take off and re-apply the door weatherstipping?
3)will the incab have to be totally removed to paint the part it bolts on to?
4) what would be some things to be carefull of?

Some of the knobs have set screws that mount them. The headlight pull you have to pull out to the lights on positition and the reach under the dash and push a pin on the switch to release the knob / shaft. It's easier to pull the cluster out first. Most of the switches are held in by chromed nuts that go through the dash were the shaft comes through. For me I use a pair of needle nose pliers in the slots to preload the nut to come off and then wiggle the switch from under the dash until they come loose (the 'nut' will stripp easily). The dash pad has bolts under the front lip that are a pain and a row towards the windshield.
If the door weather stripping is in good shape I'd just peal the lip up and tape it off. It's glued on and can suck.

You will probably be amazed at how quickly you can have everything pulled out. These trucks are pretty simple. The more you can remove, as opposed to masking off, the better it will turn out.
A suggestion would be to take lots of interior pictures before you start taking it apart, they could come in handy when your putting it back together.

I agree with seattle67...
Take pics before you pull anything out.
There is a tool you can get to remove the switch bezel nuts. They have a couple of them on ebay now...
you can make one out of a deep socket and a grinder if you are so inclined.
I use a small flat punch and a small leather mallot, and tap them gently until they are loose.
To remove the dash pad... there's a couple of tools that will make the job easier.
Use a 1/4 rachet with a short swivel extension and a 5/16 (I think that's the right size) deep socket, keep a 5/16 box end handy too.
The swivel extention isn't one of the wobbly universal things, it's an extension that has more if a diamond shaped end instead of a square end like standard extensions have.
By hooking a few of them together, you can darn near make a circle and turn corners with them...
After removing the nuts from the underside start lifting the pad...
I had one that was literally rusted to the dash... using a flexy paint scraper I was able to remove it little by little and save the pad.
I removed another one that came off really easy, and another that was like vacuum sealed onto the dash...
no rust or anything... just stuck real good, but once I got it broke loose, it came out perfectly...

I stripped my cab down and the switches all came out easy the dashpad well..me and it got into a fight.. and well I guess I happen to miss on of the nuts or somethign cause it kinda well.. lets jsut say are they called dash padS when they split in two after ya growl at it and rip it out?

I took ever thing out mine in about 3 hours and thats with the dash pad gas tank you name it. Its not hard at all I did not know what I was doing on most of it but I got it out. Thats the best way to learn any thing

Took several hours to take mine out but now its going back in! It IS worth it to take the time to remove everything!

i have a parts truck thatt he interior was repainted without removing everything they did a pretty good job of masking almost everything off. but they did miss a few spots. it is best to remove everything before painting it. the parts truck i had last year they just painted over some stuff that they left in place like the headliner trim.
