Headliner install

Post by mjhaltom »

I tried to install my headliner tonight but ran into trouble. When I screw the back two trim pieces into place they meet in the back and overlap. I think I am missing a piece (the one that covers where these two meet and holds the rear center screw. Would someone please post a PICS of their headliner and trim for reference? Thanks

I guess I just need the little trim piece that covers up where they overlap, huh?

i dont understand what you are saying mjhaltom. the two back peices overlap and the screw just screws them in secure into the cab like fordman said. i dont understand what you mean when you say"the little piece that covers up where they overlap".

Check out these PICS and you will see what I mean. I could swear this is all trim I took out of this truck and painted, but I looks like I may have one piece that came from another truck.

The two pieces you're trying to install along the back are not the correct ones. Well, ONE of them is...but you're trying to install two right-side pieces, instead of one right-side and one left-side. The other piece has the cover built into it.

Here are a couple pictures of the early ('67) trim:

Some headliner trim trivia: '67-'69 are 6-piece (white and chrome) and '70-'72 (white and chrome) are 4 piece. The early trim has separate rear corner pieces (accounting for the extra 2 pieces) whereas the newer trim has the rear corner brackets as a integral part of the side pieces. The trim sets are interchangeable for all years. Whatever's in a cab now would seem to be dependent on what the restorer/owner had in good condition on hand at the time.
