That makes more sense.
Here's my thought, though. Hypotheticly, if I run my drill at 100MPH, and I need to go to 44,000 miles from 93,000 miles, I will need to forward it 51,000 miles. That will take 510 hours!!!! If the drill runs 200MPH won't it damage it? And it would still take 255 hours. Is this what everyone is doing? It seems like it would take way to long.
I want my odometer to read corectly, but I don't want to ruin it either.

I'm pretty sure that there is a step down gear from the tranny to your odometer and that the odometer isn't running at 100MPH. Think about how slow that 1/10th mile turns. If you spin it really fast, the miles will fly by.
There was a point while I was holding the little divider tabs to keep most of the numbers from turning that I lost my grip. The ten thousand, and thousand barrel jerked around and when I got all the tabs lined up again somehow I'd gone from the 40k's down to sub 5k. From there it took no time.
It was kinda like untying a knot, just kept fiddlin with it and got lucky.
Be careful when you take the odo out. That little spring will break if you just force the barrel out like I did. I think with care it'll come out in one pc.

No, I know the odometer turns slow. That's what I mean. I'd have to run it a 100MPH to get the odometer to go around 51,000 miles, and it would take over 500 hours!

That's exactly what I don't want to do!
Thanks for the pointers guys. I'll take it apart and see what I can see. I guess there isn't a way to do it without taking it apart.

Once. In a Chebby Crew Cab I had when I was 18. Had a built SB in it, (I hope cooltoolguy isn't listening ) went over 120 on rt.15.
My fathers buddy built it and I bought it from him. I drove it for 2 months and the motor spun the bearings. P.O.S. Chebby!

Ahh...the memories of driving mom and dad's Pinto around the block backwards to remove the miles put on!
I did the 69Rangerman one before too. A half inch drill with a trigger lock works wonders.
Same thing in Florida, (they make you sign the "odometer reads beyond the mechanical capability of the vehicle").
Even the principal of it isn't right, the government hides much worse from us all everyday.

For the record, I ended up having to use a tiny little carburetor C-clip to hold the odo in place. So far I have 2698 miles on my 302 rebuild. I like knowing that.
