insided door handle installation

Post by 1971ford »

I painted my panels and am trying to get the drivers side interior door handle back on. I got the passenger one on and working easily but on the drivers side i cant get the little bar that comes from the handle to go under the bar attached to the opening mechanism. any tricks to get this installed? right now im using a screw driver as a door opener :o

if your talking about the latch on the door that grabs the knob on the body to close and secure it,
i have tried messing around with that but it still wont let me get under the pole thing with the pole thing on the latch.

yeah. ill try to make it more clear

there is a small metal peice coming from the interior door handle itself that is about 1 inch long and maybe a cm wide. this peice needs to be placed under a pole that is inside the door for it to work. I cant get the metal piece coming from the handle to go under the pole coming from inside the door.
hope that helps :)

it is just tight. that all. if you can hold the button on the outer door handle open while putting the inside handle on it will hold that rod looser and you can get it in. or you could just try getting it in place and tighten the bolts to force the handle tab under the rod .

well the pushing of the exterior didnt work and the tightening of the nuts didnt work but when i was out there i remembered how i did it before. there are holes cut in the bottom part of the lever assembly. i put the lever on and stuck a flat head through the hole and lifted the rod up so i could get the lever rod under it.
