Anyone ever try to install one of these stereos?

I wanted one of the silver faced ones, but couldn't pass this up. If it doesn't go in the '71 it will end up in the '93 stang. Did one to my dad's '89 coupe and it fit really nice. Figured I'd try to fit it before painting.

i think it is a double din, if it is its too big to go in the dash.

It'll fit if I want it in there They're tall, but not much taller than the stock bezel.

Thanks for the link, this one has the internal amp so the wiring is pretty basic once I get the plug. Dad got a 6cd for $30 shipped and he swapped it out of his '99 superduty in about fifteen minutes and put the plain CD player in the stang. This one was at $9.99 and I hit it up to $30 three hours before it went off and with a bunch of others around it with high bids I didn't expect to get it, especially for $12...

I'm sure I can make it fit, the back isn't full height so I may even be able to put some tweeters under the dash.

Been playing with this idea some more. Ended up getting another center dash section today to chop apart and graft into the original dash to make room for this stereo to fit. I figure I'll graft the stereo in and then whittle a factory looking bezel out of aluminum. I also found a decent AC heater control on the dash I sawzalled apart.

Photochopped... Figure I'll move the bottom sweep over under the glovebox, lower the ash tray and heater control and graft in the missing peices from the black dash. The holes above the ash tray will be for the diesel glowplug and water in fuel lamps. I'll have to fab up something in aluminum for them as well.

Gonna be a lot of fine cutting and fitting back together but it's the direction I want to go with it. Custom. I already made a particle board blank for the stereo faceplate and it fits side to side in the original radio hole, it just needs more hieght. I also considered changing the heater controls out to something that would fit where the ash tray was. The guys at the junk yard couldn't fathom what I'm going to do and never heard of someone cutting a dash section out to repair a radio hole.

Mike, check out my thread over in the project updates forum. Decided to put the heater controls above the stereo and the ash tray over by the glovebox. It looks pretty good, but I haven't had time to work on it due to the dome lamp bezel project.

Yeah, I drank a beer and closed one eye, squinted through the other one and figured it out. It actually looks like it belongs.
