Heater blower not blowing

Post by theogre5150 »

Well, got in the truck after work today and turned on the heat. Haven't had a problem until today. It's getting kinda cold here so I turned on the fan to high. Nothing blowing out. I have heat but it seems that the blower is not working. I checked the fuse and it is not burnt. Has my blower gone out or is there something else I can check?

it could be the switch or the resistor in the back of the heater box or it could be the motor. you will just have to check them one by one. the resistor seems to be the most likely culprit from what ive learned.

Got it fixed. It was the fuse. The fuse was not blown but the PO had put a 30amp fuse in, instead of a 20amp. I put the 20amp in and it works.

Eric, that is odd, did I read your reply backwards or did you type it backwards? Is the required fuse value 20 amp and it had 30 amp in there and blower wouldn't run? That doesn't make sense. I could see if required value of fuse was 30 and it had 20 amp and kept blowing? Sounds odd.

Most likely the contacts on the fuse were dirty and made a better connection again when he put the new fuse in.

Hey Banjo. The correct fuse for the blower is a 20amp. The PO had put in a 30amp but it was working. It could have been dirty contacts but I'm glad I replaced it with the correct one.

ogre, it is good you did, because if it has a short somewhere, that is an old trick to keep something working (despite short) keep upping the amps till it doesn't blow. I've even bought old cars that folks have taken a fuze apart and used a paper clip bent up inside it to make hard contact so it couldn't blow. I've also known of a guy used a bolt in a fuse holder to "go ahead and find his short" in other words to watch a wire smoke. Good way to burn a truck to the ground and possibly the home it's near (both tricks). You're probably right about corrosion.
I have gotten alot of non-functional electronics working by electrical contact cleaner and wiggling back and forth and sometimes even without the cleaner. Headlight switches, wipers, radio's (tuner knobs), etc. it was probably just the removal and replacement that helped more than any. I'm still gonna call you sometime to go junkyarding have just been too busy. Just got in from Smoky Mtn, Banjo.

Lucky. I drove past them during the summer on my way to NC. I was supposed to take some vacation time around Christmas up there but that fell through. Maybe next year.

As for the junkin', I'm ready when you are. Gimme a holler when your ready.
