Hi guys,
I'm trying to get a steering wheel off of a spare column I have. It is the 2 spoke wheel, like on 71-77 models. The wheel has a nice horn button/pad assembly, so I would like to get it off undamaged.
My only convern is that the plastic is probably brittle.
Does anyone have a procedure for getting the horn button assembly off without breaking it?

Nick,
If I understand what you're asking....
There are two phillips head screws on the back side of the steering wheel and it comes right out.

On mine (67 and 68) you just push the horn button straight down and give it a quick turn counter clockwise.

Mooosman's talkin' about the newer style... not the pre '71 style...
Jeff's got it spot on...
two screws from the back hold the pad on...
I can't remember if there's a wire that connects it or not...
but you will be able to tell after getting the screws out.

re: How To Safely Remove Horn Button???
Got it out, I thought there was more to it than that! I thought there were some plastic clips in place that held it in, in addition to the 2 screws.
What I am concerned about now, is that the little spring-loaded pin that contacts the back of the steering wheel (where the juice goes through to the button) is about to come out of its little holder, because I have a 3/8" gap between the wheel and the column. If that little pin comes out, I have no horn
For now, though, I got it put back together and working.
